With her images, Heleen Haijtema (1980) explores the intersection of staged photography and coincidence, with a preference for slightly absurd situations. She experiments with everyday installations in both still and moving images. By working with erratic conditions, such as wind or flash light, she creates an uncertain factor that she cannot control within her carefully staged frame. After the propaedeutic year at Minerva Academy in Groningen, Haijtema followed film and video art at the Antwerp Academy. Since 2013 she works completely independently, autonomously, but also commissioned by various art institutions. She previously exhibited at Grasnapolsky, Fotomuseum Den Haag and Explore the North, among others.
